MP Acan to join SECU and INDU Committee’s
Dear Neighbour,
In Ottawa, much of a Member of Parliament’s work happens in committees. These small, cross-party groups study legislation, review government programs and spending, hear from experts and communities, and publish recommendations that shape national policy. I am pleased to share with you that I have been appointed to the Public Safety and National Security Committee, where I can advocate directly for safer neighbourhoods in communities like ours. I also serve as an associate member of the Industry and Technology Committee, where I will draw on my experience to help promote innovation and expand economic opportunity.
Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security (SECU)
SECU studies Canada’s public safety system, including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canada Border Services Agency, Canadian Security Intelligence Service, cybersecurity, emergency management such as wildfires, and organized crime. A major focus has been auto theft and how organized networks move stolen vehicles through our ports, alongside broader work on cyber threats.
Standing Committee on Industry and Technology (INDU)
INDU studies competitiveness, innovation and industrial policy, including telecommunications, competition, small and medium-sized enterprises, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. As an associate member, when designated to substitute, I take on the same responsibilities as regular members.
I look forward to engaging deeply on the issues, ask tough questions, and turn Oakville’s priorities into national action.
Sincerely,
Sima Acan
Member of Parliament, Oakville West
